Smart Shopper Tips for Holiday Shopping

Are you wondering how to survive this holiday season without breaking the bank? Look no further… here are some simple survival tips to make your upcoming holiday shopping season a little more merry! blog_holiday 1. Make a List: Make a list of everyone you need to shop for and don’t forget to include the people that you buy tiny gifts for (child’s teacher, coworkers, mailman, etc.) By making a list and writing down a budget for each person on your list, there will be no room for surprises! 2. Bake a Batch: Cookies. Caramel. Chocolate Covered Pretzels. A batch of sweetness tossed in with some red and green or blue and white sprinkles can go a long way! It is one of the few gifts that are super cost effective but always appreciated. Take a few sweets from your batch, place them in a clear baggie, include a short personalized holiday note, tie the baggie with some curly cue ribbons and voila! 3. Do Online Research: Often times stress comes into play when you’re trying to find a gift that is less expensive but still reputable and trustworthy. Make sure to read through the different awarded brands here at WomensChoiceAward.com so that you can be sure you’re buying the brands that are most recommended by women! Also be sure to search the net for best pricing. You don’t want to come home the mall to find out that your gift is cheaper online or at a department store. 4. Black Friday and Cyber Monday. You may live for this thrill so if you’re brave enough to leave your house on that Friday or savvy enough to hop online come Monday, just be careful to stay within budget…oh, and don’t get trampled in line! Good luck! 5. Do It Yourself. You may not have any time on your hands or be particularly crafty but if you have a talent (knitting, sewing, scrapbooking, painting, cooking, etc.) put it to good use! Some of my favorite and most valued gifts from friends and family have been scrapbooks to put in pictures, knitted blankets, family cookbooks and decorated tote bags. There is nothing more meaningful and it’s a gift that will stay with you for a lifetime. 6. Gift Baskets: Instead of buying gifts for each individual in a family unit, create a gift basket filled with items surrounding a theme. For example, if your closest friends love to watch movies with their kids create a basket with DVDs, popcorn, $20 gift card to AMC, etc. If they love wine, include two bottles, a wine tasting and wine glasses carefully tucked inside a wicker picnic basket. 7. Think Ahead: If you know you’re taking the kids to Disney World for Spring Break, stuff their stockings with maps, guidebooks, and Disney memorabilia. It will save you money down the road and get them super excited for what’s to come once the holidays are over! 8. Pay Cash: It’s harder to give up that crisp hundred dollar bill than it is to swipe that shiny piece of plastic. Paying in cash will allow you to monitor exactly how much you’ve spent since you had to make a withdrawal of a specific amount. This will keep you in check when you leave the house on a shopping spree mission. Happy Shopping and Happy Holidays!
